About The Position

The Social Work Department at Mount St. Joseph University is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented work-study student to enhance the university's organizational capacity. This role involves developing sustainable programs and systems to address community needs, including expanding outreach, increasing volunteer engagement, and strengthening partnerships with local organizations. The project aims to improve internal processes and ensure long-term sustainability, ultimately empowering MSJ to have a lasting positive impact on individuals and families in the community and help low-income students access a college pathway.

Requirements

Must be enrolled at Mount St. Joseph University
Must be eligible for Federal Work-Study
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively

Nice To Haves

Proficiency in social media platforms and basic graphic design software (e.g., Canva) is a plus.
Interest in social work and community engagement is preferred.

Responsibilities

Develop resource toolkits with tips, guides, and templates for parents advocating for their children's needs in educational, healthcare, and social service settings.
Explore strategies to foster a community of parents (The Parenting Academy participants) for connection, shared experiences, and mutual support.
Provide resources for parents to understand and manage mental health, including counseling resources, stress management techniques, and tools to help families cope with challenges related to poverty.
Develop and distribute mental health resource toolkits with contact information for local services and guidance on recognizing and addressing mental health challenges.
Build and strengthen partnerships with local organizations, schools, and government agencies to expand the reach and sustainability of the Parenting Academy and other support services for low-income families.
Research and conduct outreach to local schools, community centers, government agencies, and businesses that align with the program's mission to form potential partnerships.
Research existing community resources to identify potential gaps in supports for students and/or parents.
Promote opportunities for community members to support the continuation of The Parenting Academy and other MSJ programs.
Create and implement sustainable solutions for program management at MSJ.
Develop a system to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the Parenting Academy and other programs at MSJ.
Collect data and feedback from stakeholders to assess program efficiency and identify methods for improvement.
Compile evaluation data into reports to share with stakeholders, funders, and partners, ensuring transparency and identifying areas for program improvement.
