About The Position

Canopy Children's Solutions, founded in 1912, is Mississippi's leading nonprofit provider of children's behavioral health, educational, and social service solutions. This internship offers the opportunity to assist in delivering mental health services, including individual, family, and group therapy, as well as substance abuse treatment. Interns will gain hands-on experience with targeted clinical interventions, assessments, treatment plans, and case documentation. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, maturity, self-motivation, and comfort working with diverse families. This is an unpaid internship for academic credit only.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age with a valid driver's license.
  • Current students actively pursuing a master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Sociology, Marriage & Family Counseling, or related field.
  • Must be enrolled, and in good academic standing, with an accredited academic institution at the time of internship.
  • All interns are required to attend a 40-hour orientation and training session at the beginning of their internship.
  • Business Professional or Clinical Attire.
  • Established contract with academic institution.
  • Minimum 100-hour commitment unless stated otherwise in contract.
  • Students must satisfactorily complete goals as outlined by university affiliates and their assigned site supervisor.
  • Excellent oral and written presentation skills.
  • Maturity.
  • Self-motivation.
  • Comfortable working with families with diverse needs.
  • Ability to integrate into our vibrantly inclusive and passionate team.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting in the delivery of mental health services such as individual therapy, family therapy, group therapy, substance abuse treatment and more, depending on the internship placement.
  • Gaining first-hand, targeted clinical interventions based on the client's specific needs.
  • Experiencing various assessments and plans.
  • Completing case documentation.
