About The Position

Questrade Financial Group (QFG) is a financial services company that offers a range of services including investment, wealth management, mortgages, and real estate. They utilize cutting-edge technology and a human-centric approach combined with AI-driven innovation to redefine financial services and empower their teams. QFG is looking for a Social Video Producer to join their new in-house content division, QuestMedia, specifically for their publication, The Margin. This role will focus on creating short-form video content to enhance The Margin's presence across social platforms and eventually expand to longer-format channels like YouTube.

Requirements

  • Digitally savvy storyteller capable of adapting editorial ideas into various social video formats.
  • Understanding of social media content consumption and algorithm changes.
  • Ability to move fast, embrace unconventional ideas, and possess strong production skills.
  • 3+ years of experience in video production, social media content creation, or digital media.
  • Portfolio or reel demonstrating visual storytelling range, point of view, voice, and personality.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects.
  • Familiarity with camera systems, lighting rigs, and audio recording.
  • Understanding of what works on social media platforms like Instagram Reels, TikTok, and YouTube, and why.
  • Creative and editorial mindset to translate complex topics into engaging content.
  • Ability to work quickly without sacrificing quality and prioritize tasks.
  • Collaborative mindset, receptive to feedback and willing to iterate.
  • Bachelor's degree in film, media production, journalism, communications, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience at a media company, newsroom, or digital publisher.
  • Familiarity with tools like Photoshop, Figma, or Canva for static/graphic content.
  • Experience with finance, business, or economics content, or a genuine curiosity about it.
  • On-camera presence or hosting experience.
  • Familiarity with social listening tools (e.g., Sprout Social).
  • Experience with YouTube channel strategy or audience growth.

Responsibilities

  • Pitch, storyboard, script, shoot, and edit short-form video content for Instagram Reels, TikTok, LinkedIn and YouTube Shorts.
  • Turn editorial content into compelling visual stories and contribute original ideas.
  • Serve as the technical lead on shoots, managing lighting, audio, performances, and camera work with limited resources.
  • Edit video content using Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects, and potentially Canva or similar tools, including color grading, motion graphics, and sound mixing.
  • Produce content across various formats, including video, static graphics, photos, carousels, and text-based posts, maintaining brand identity and voice.
  • Monitor social-listening tools and platform analytics to inform content strategy.
  • Engage directly with the community by replying to comments and participating in conversations.
  • Collaborate with the Social Media Strategy Manager and editorial team to develop content calendars.
  • Contribute to building out longer-form video capabilities, such as podcast episodes and interviews.
