About The Position

The incumbent of this position teaches sensory impaired students in a state-mandated academic program. This includes conducting and directing student learning experiences using written lesson plans that cover the requirements of the State with regard to the Current Florida Curriculum Standards and course descriptions. The role involves using required instructional materials with fidelity to introduce and develop concepts, developing and maintaining a classroom management program, and identifying/developing, implementing, using, monitoring, and evaluating long and short term objectives based on students' IEPs. The teacher will analyze and utilize student data to drive instruction, monitor student progress based on IEP goals and FSDB and State mandated objectives, and record and report data on individual students, including grade books, report cards, progress monitoring reports, incident reports, interim reports, and attendance records. Additionally, the role requires documenting and correcting disruptive student behavior in accordance with school policies and procedures, and maintaining a professional relationship with students, parents, and other staff members. The position also requires attending trainings/meetings and implementing skills acquired during professional development activities as required by Federal, State and FSDB mandates. Other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in related field
  • Current state of Florida educator certification in Middle Grades Social Science 5-9, Social Science 6-12 or Middle Grades Integrated Curriculum 5-9 or ability to obtain within a reasonable period of time upon hire
  • Current certification in Deaf or Hard of Hearing (or eligible for upon appointment)
  • If certification(s) noted are not from Florida, upon appointment, shall obtain state of Florida certification(s) within a reasonable period of time
  • Additional requirements mandated by state/federal law and position responsibilities
  • Applicants who are selected for hire will be required to attain an advanced proficiency in sign language within one year of hire

  • Teachers may be hired with current state of Florida educator certification in Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing K-12, with the understanding that additional certification requirements must be completed within a specified period of time.
  • Teachers may be hired with current state of Florida educator certification in Middle Grades Social Science 5-9, Social Science 6-12 or Middle Grades Integrated Curriculum 5-9, with the understanding that additional certification(s) requirements must be completed within a specified period of time.
