About The Position

The primary responsibility of the Social Studies Teacher is to plan, organize, and implement an appropriate instructional program in an elementary or secondary learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. This role performs instructional and related duties in accordance with District policies and terms of the teacher contract, while maintaining a cooperative attitude with staff, parents, and students. The position is part of the Teacher Innovation Zone for the 2026-2027 School Year, which consists of seven unique schools providing educators with opportunities for challenging and rewarding teaching and learning experiences. Innovation zone leaders and teachers are expected to create genuine and meaningful relationships with students, recognize individual student uniqueness and potential for success, engage with colleagues to design and implement high-quality instruction, pioneer new ideas and approaches, and adopt a growth mindset to overcome barriers and pursue student success. Throughout the year, teachers within the innovation zone will collaborate with colleagues, build community through professional development and social events, and participate in additional zone-specific "innovation days". Teachers in hard-to-fill positions within the innovation zone, such as Mathematics Teacher and ESS teacher, qualify for an additional annual stipend, and other positions may also receive a bonus based on building needs.

Requirements

  • Valid Colorado Teaching License within 60 days from date of hire
  • Social Studies Endorsement or Teacher must be highly qualified in applicable content area through the following options: Endorsement on a Colorado teaching license, 36 semester credit hours applicable to content area - Social Studies, or Passing score on a State Board of Education approved content exam (currently the ETS Praxis Series)
  • Be eligible for a TiR or Alternative Licensing Program in content area
  • Employee must complete a fingerprint-based criminal background check and must be cleared by the Office of Human Resources
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary
  • Ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis

Nice To Haves

  • 3-5 years successful teaching as demonstrated by references, evaluations and student growth data
  • Experience implementing effective literacy instruction including foundational skills and comprehension strategies
  • Experience using Common Core State standards to plan instruction.
  • Experience with a blended learning model or a desire to learn
  • Experience with AVID implementation or a desire to learn
  • Experience in a Title I setting or low income setting
  • Experience with Teach Like A Champion Strategies
  • Successful experience implementing strong classroom routines and procedures demonstrated by references and evaluations
  • Experience with STEM based educational philosophy and instructional practices.

  • Establish written grading standards that are clear and incorporate a variety of graded activities.
  • Assure that grading standards are explained and available to parents.
  • Develop and maintain positive interpersonal relationships.

  • Maintain a cooperative relationship with administrators, staff, students, and parents.
  • Share appropriate information with parents and with other staff members.
  • Provide documentation of students' progress.
  • Provide timely and accurate feedback/documentation to students, parents, and appropriate staff members.
  • Assign and check homework and provide appropriate feedback to students.
  • Maintain appropriate records of student performance, progress, and development.
  • Build motivation and interest in learning.
  • Exhibit personal interest and encourage student interest in the subject area.
  • Maintain a current awareness of literature/activities in subject area.
  • Maintain an ongoing personal program of professional growth and development.
  • Cultivate and model a respectful working and learning environment.
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.
  • Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school.
  • Participate in department, school, district, and parent meetings.
  • Perform any and all other duties as assigned by Building Administrators.
