About The Position

The Mount Vernon City School District is looking to hire a Social Studies Teacher for grades 7-12. Requirements

• NYS Social Studies 7-12 Certification/License
• Demonstrate an understanding of the content and appropriate skills.
• Proficient in NYS Social Studies Standards and NYS Grades 9-12 Social Studies Framework.
• Extensive knowledge of the NYS Regents Examinations in Global History and Geography II and United States History and Government.
• Ability to engage adolescent students and interact in a manner that promotes a positive academic experience for all students.
• Ability to encourage family involvement and ensure effective communication with students and families.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with social and emotional learning preferred.
• Familiarity with best practices and content-area resources to reinforce NYS Social Studies Standards, NYS Social Studies Framework, and Regents examinations.

Responsibilities

• Proficient in NYS Social Studies Standards and NYS Grades 9-12 Social Studies Framework.
• Possess extensive knowledge of the NYS Regents Examinations in Global History and Geography II and United States History and Government that will be used to prepare lessons aligned to the NYS Regents examinations.
• Promote a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction that will promote student inquiry and engagement.
• Conduct assessments of student learning and modify instructional methods to fit individual student needs.
• Willing and able to work in a collaborative teaching environment, including co-teaching and interdisciplinary planning.
• Seek professional growth and professional learning opportunities.
• Demonstrate an ability to engage adolescent students and interact in a manner that promotes a positive academic experience for all students.
• Encourage family involvement and ensure effective communication with students and families.
