About The Position

The Social Studies Coach will maintain and monitor the implementation of the social studies program, including professional development of school personnel. The Social Studies Coach is responsible for ensuring the comprehensive instruction of social studies within the school, as well as compliance with Full-Time Equivalency (FTE) rules and guidelines from the Florida Department of Education and the United States Department of Education. Requirements

  • Three years of increasingly responsible experience in classroom teaching, with two years of related management or supervisory experience required.
  • Florida Professional Educator Certificate.
  • Reads, analyzes, and interprets all kinds of documents.
  • Responds to inquiries or complaints from employees, regulatory agencies, or community.
  • Writes speeches and effectively presents to managers, the public, and school board.
  • Works with math concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of geometry and trigonometry.
  • Applies concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Solves practical problems and deals with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Interprets a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Knowledge of relevant and current computer software programs.
  • Standing, walking, sitting, handling, keyboarding, talking, and hearing.
  • Up to 10 pounds.
  • Both dominant and non-dominant hand; overhead.
  • Noise intensity 3 moderate.
  • This position requires traveling to various school sites, work locations and/or community organizations throughout the district.

Responsibilities

  • Provides instructional coaching to all content area classroom teachers in order to improve social studies instruction and acquisition.
  • Develops and conducts staff development for classroom teachers.
  • Maintains and monitors implementation of Hillsborough County Public Schools’ Social Studies Program Guidelines and Procedures, inclusive of county and state guidelines and benchmarks.
  • Demonstrates a strong working knowledge of best practices in social studies instruction across the content area.
  • Develops and conducts professional development for targeted audiences in the content area of social studies instruction regarding instructional strategies, best practices, and specific instructional topics.
  • Provides coaching to targeted audiences in order to improve social studies instruction, classroom organization and management, and effective implementation of district provided resources.
  • Conducts data conferences with classroom teachers to interpret data and plan instruction, and models effective teaching techniques when presenting to groups and other professionals.
  • Assists social studies and content-specific supervisors in developing model lesson plans and curriculum.
  • Meets regularly with building administrators regarding classroom practices and provides ongoing feedback with the district social studies supervisor.
  • Continues to develop professional expertise through professional readings, trainings, and conferences.
  • Promotes parent and community outreach and involvement in the social studies instructional program at the school.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned.
