About The Position

The Social Skills Teacher is responsible for providing a safe, non-threatening environment conducive to helping students learn social skills and develop friendships while upholding Social Motion Skills’ standards and core values.

Requirements

Demonstrate a basic knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis and other evidence-based practices for those on the Autism Spectrum
Adhere to a high level of professional and ethical standards
Knowledge of autism and similar social cognitive challenges
Excellent interpersonal skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Strong organizational skills
Ability to work independently, use initiative, identify problems and propose solutions

Nice To Haves

Have a Master's Degree in education, psychology, human development or related fields strongly preferred
Have a valid Texas teaching certificate (Special Education preferred) or specialized certification such as BCBA, LSSP, or LCSW (preferred)
Have a minimum one year teaching experience (Special Education preferred) or counseling experience

Responsibilities

Foster a positive classroom environment that will allow student learning, expression, and safety
Follow social skills lessons provided by Social Motion to teach group social skills in the afterschool program
Utilize basic behavioral strategies such as prompting, modeling, and video modeling during lessons
Understand and know how the Behavior Skills Training model is incorporated in the social skills lessons
Coach students’ social interactions during weekly facilitated game time
Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct
Complete Class Communication Forms weekly for each student and distribute to parents after each class
Document weekly attendance and communicate with administration any attendance concerns
Know emergency procedures and be prepared to supervise students during such emergencies (fire, natural disaster, terroristic threats, etc.)
Communicate with the Education Director and parents regarding student’s progress
Confer with Education Director regarding any behavioral or disciplinary concerns
Supervise students on monthly student outings at various community venues
Communicate with parents information regarding class outings and events
Facilitate social interaction among students during monthly class outings
Mentor teacher assistants, interns, and/or volunteers who work with students
