Requirements

Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of social service administration
Considerable knowledge of social work/case management theory and practices
Considerable knowledge of managerial principals and practices
Considerable knowledge of other county, state and community services and resources available
Considerable knowledge of client population
Knowledge required of Family Services Supervisors
Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a Human Services field or minimum of a Bachelor's degree in any field with a minimum of two years of appropriate and related experience in a Human Services area
Considerable experience in assigned program area/human services programs
Completion of required training
Work experience in developing/implementing/monitoring/managing case plans and overseeing caseload management
Experience managing and supervising professionals involved in social services programs
Any combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
Extensive experience, training and working knowledge of family services programs within the Department of Social Services
Experience and training in supervising and coaching family services staff

Driving record must meet agency standard

Employee must be willing to work in community emergency shelter in the event of a natural disaster or emergency

Nice To Haves

Possession of a BSW or MSW degree
Possession of a Commonwealth of Virginia Social Worker license

Responsibilities

Supervises supervisory staff; acts in the place of the Social Services Director when absent
Plans, organizes and directs staff / programs
Conducts meetings as necessary
Manages and directs the activities and functions of a multifaceted social services program
Monitors service delivery and implements organizational changes necessary to achieve goals and objectives
Develops and/or revises operating plans and procedures in accordance with overall departmental/divisional goals and objectives
Oversees the implementation of same
Ensures policies and procedures provide for effective delivery of services
Plans, assigns, reviews and evaluates the work of supervisory staff responsible for effective delivery of services
Participates as a member of senior management staff in examining county and statewide needs and issues
Works closely with other managers in the development, implementation and monitoring of new and/or revised service programs or delivery methods
Works with other state, community or private social service providers to ensure quality service
