About The Position

The Kentucky Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) is a multi-faceted agency that serves juveniles of the Commonwealth. The Kentucky Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) seeks to serve youth in the least restrictive, appropriate placement possible. This is a highly responsible position in the Justice and Public Safety Cabinet. Requirements

  • A master's degree in social work, sociology, psychology, marriage and family therapy or a related field.
  • A valid driver's license.
  • Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification.

Nice To Haves

  • A bachelor's degree supplemented by one year of professional social work experience OR a bachelor's degree in social work and successful completion of the Public Child Welfare Worker Certification Program will substitute for the master's degree.

Responsibilities

  • At second level of series, provides professional counseling services to juveniles in a residential, group home, day treatment or detention facility.
  • Provides individual, group and family counseling services to assigned juveniles served by the department.
  • Assists in and makes recommendations for development of the individual treatment plan.
  • Conducts treatment team planning sessions.
  • Participates in placement and discharge of juveniles.
  • Assists juvenile service worker with integration of juvenile back to community.
  • Writes progress notes, discharge summaries, charting summaries and other administrative or treatment reports.
  • Ensures treatment files are updated and complete.
  • Transports juveniles when necessary.
  • Minimum travel may be required.
  • May be required to restrain out-of-control juveniles.
