About The Position

This is a temporary position with the Office of State Human Resources, Temporary Solutions. The position is located at 65 Moore Drive, Durham NC - Durham County with the Department of Health and Human Services. The RESP-NET Social Research Assistant Position is in the Communicable Disease Branch (CDB) at the North Carolina Division of Public Health. This position will work within the Respiratory Disease Surveillance program and with partners at CDC and CSTE to conduct a population-based hospitalization surveillance project for influenza, Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), and COVID-19. This position will provide part-time support for the programs’ surveillance via prompt and accurate case reporting and vaccine verification to appropriate North Carolina and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) public health officials. This position will work collaboratively with Respiratory Disease team and RESP-NET epidemiologists.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, business, sociology, economics, psychology or related to work performed from an appropriately accredited institution; or High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and four years of experience involving collecting, interpreting, and reporting of statistical or social or economic data; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Required to have secure, encrypted Wi-Fi with adequate speed for remote work.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that reports received from North Carolina Public Health Epidemiologist Network (PHEs) in RESP-NET are complete and accurate.
  • Ensure routine reporting of cases to the CDC.
  • Provide vaccine verification services including matching cases with the North Carolina Immunization Registry (NCIR) and contacting patients, pharmacies, and providers as needed.
  • Exhibit strong verbal and written communications skills and the ability to discuss sensitive and confidential problems with local health officials, physicians, and members of the public.
  • Ensure that all services are performed in a prompt, efficient, confidential, and courteous manner.
  • Plan and schedule meetings with internal and external partners for staff meetings, consultations, huddles, and other meetings necessary.
