About The Position

This position requires creativity, strong visual storytelling skills, sound judgment, an understanding of social media culture and the ability to produce high-quality content under short deadlines. The Social Media Marketing Specialist develops engaging, timely and platform-specific content that strengthens Texas Southmost College’s brand, tells the College’s story and connects with prospective students, current students, employees, alumni and the community. The position manages the College’s official social media presence and creates original short-form videos, photographs, graphics, captions and other digital content. The Social Media Marketing Specialist identifies compelling campus stories, covers college events, monitors emerging trends and uses performance data to improve content and audience engagement.

Requirements

  • Familiarity with social media channels, such as Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn and emerging digital media platforms.
  • Familiarity with design programs, such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign, Premiere
  • Demonstrated experience in content production for social media across multiple social media platforms.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in organizing, conceptualizing, and prioritizing objectives and managing a high volume of projects.

Responsibilities

  • Manages, monitors and regularly updates the College’s official social media accounts, including Athletics, Student Life, and Texas Southmost College Facebook and Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, X and other emerging platforms.
  • Develops original, platform-specific content that supports the College’s marketing, recruitment, retention, student engagement, community relations and institutional priorities.
  • Plans, records, edits and publishes short-form vertical videos, including Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, interviews, student features, event recaps and behind-the-scenes content.
  • Provides real-time social media coverage of college activities, including photography, video, interviews, live updates and same-day content production.
  • Operates cameras, mobile devices, microphones, lighting and other content-production equipment to capture professional-quality photographs, video and audio.
  • Edits photographs, video and audio for publication across multiple social media platforms and digital channels.
  • Creates social media graphics, carousel posts, digital advertisements, thumbnails and other supporting visual content using approved College templates and brand standards.
  • Identifies social media trends, emerging platforms, popular formats, audio, hashtags and online conversations that may be appropriately incorporated into the College’s content strategy.
  • Uses social media management and analytical tools to schedule content, monitor performance and evaluate key performance indicators.
  • Monitors comments, messages, mentions, tags and online conversations involving the College and responds or routes inquiries according to established procedures.
  • Conceptualizes, designs, implements, and maintains innovative and cutting-edge high-quality designs for print, website, collateral materials, and social media channels.
  • Shoots digital photos at college-wide and community events to illustrate stories and videos, for use on social media platforms, collateral materials, marketing and advertising the College.
  • Coordinates production schedules to ensure projects and assignments are delivered in a timely manner.
  • Provides guidance and support to division departments to assist in the development of their social media strategies.
  • Produces graphics, video and photographic content for the College’s social media channels.
  • Creates and publishes content across the College’s multiple platforms.
  • Cultivates individual relationships and partnerships that support the College’s initiatives.
  • Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite.
  • Completes duties and responsibilities in compliance with college standards, policies and guidelines.
  • Uses interpersonal skills and makes sound judgments to decide how duties and responsibilities are completed between coworkers, the supervisory chain, faculty, staff, students, and customers.
  • Completes all required training and professional development sessions sponsored by the Texas Southmost College ( TSC ).
  • Supports the values and institutional goals as defined in the College’s Strategic Plan.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
