About The Position

America Votes is seeking a creative, motivated, and collaborative Social Media Intern for the Fall term to help grow its digital presence. This internship offers hands-on experience in shaping how the organization tells its story, creating digital content, staying on top of internet trends, and building an online community. The intern will learn to serve as a creative engine for the organization's digital presence, translating strategic goals into compelling content across social media platforms. This role involves blending technical skill with storytelling to capture, design, and refresh visuals that engage the community. Interns will also learn to use professional content management tools and experiment with emerging AI technology to streamline digital workflows and campaign execution. The internship provides exposure to how America Votes and other progressive organizations operate nationally and at the state level. Interns are expected to work at least 15 hours per week and will be compensated at $18.40 per hour. The organization is happy to work with interns to secure college credit. Requirements

  • Keep an eye on the news and understand the stakes in midterm elections.
  • Love creating social media content (videos, photos, or text).
  • Have a strong curiosity about how platforms like YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn, BlueSky, or X work behind the scenes.
  • Some experience making visual content such as video reels, graphics, or carousels, using accessible tools like Canva or mobile apps, for school, personal, or professional projects.
  • Excited to experiment with new technologies, including AI tools, digital editing software, and emerging workflows, to enhance content creation.
  • Budding interpersonal skills with the ability to build authentic, respectful relationships with diverse staff and community partners to gather content.
  • Excitement and drive to have a structured approach to tasks with a willingness to learn social media management tools (like Sprout Social) to keep campaigns organized and on schedule.
  • Comfortable working in a professional team setting.
  • Take ownership of tasks, respect privacy and community trust, and actively collaborate with others.
  • Must be based in the United States.
  • Must have regular access to a personal computer with reliable internet access and a webcam.
  • Must be available from July through December 2026.
  • Must be able to work a minimum of 15 hours a week between 9 a.m. – 6 p.m ET.

Nice To Haves

  • May be a novice or a true guru in social media content creation, but will leave with lots of real-world experience.
  • Experience can come from leading clubs, projects, or teams.

Responsibilities

  • Roll out creative campaigns across YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn, BlueSky, and emerging spaces.
  • Connect with staff and community partners to gather real-time photos, videos, and stories.
  • Use a unique eye to spot moments that will truly connect and "pop" online.
  • Dive into the digital content library to give existing videos and photos a fresh, creative second life.
  • Design scroll-stopping graphics, video thumbnails, and social layouts using Canva and mobile editing tools.
  • Experiment with AI tools to brainstorm ideas, smooth out workflows, and speed up copywriting and asset production.
  • Organize, schedule, and publish approved content using professional management tools like Sprout Social to keep campaigns on track.
