As part of a 12-person Marketing team within a much larger Communications department, the Social Media Associate supports awareness, advocacy, and engagement efforts through social listening, audience engagement, insights, and content development. The ideal candidate has a strong interest in issue advocacy and a well-rounded background in social media, digital communications, and content strategy. This is a non-supervisory position. The Social Media Associate is expected to work a full-time (37.5 hours/week) schedule and may work hybrid from the following locations: San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, or Washington, DC.

Requirements

  • 2-3 years of experience in social media, digital communications, or a related field
  • Exceptional written communication and copywriting skills
  • Experience in nonprofit, legal, or issue advocacy
  • Organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple project timelines
  • Strong understanding of social platforms and community management best practices
  • Proficiency with social media management, listening, and reporting platforms such as Brandwatch, Sprout Social, and/or Hootsuite
  • Basic design or video editing experience using tools such as Canva or Adobe Creative Suite

Responsibilities

  • Monitor Earthjustice social platforms daily and engage with audiences through comments and conversations
  • Conduct social listening to track sentiment and emerging narratives in the news cycle, identifying rapid response opportunities for engagement and thought leadership
  • Share insights from social listening to inform content, campaigns, and engagement strategies
  • Draft social media copy in collaboration with social team for use across platforms
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and social media team to conceptualize and plan content for Earthjustice campaigns
  • Ensure all content is accurate, on-brand, and tailored to target audiences
  • Support reporting & analytics by pulling regular reports on social media metrics and campaign performance
  • Share ongoing insights and recommendations to improve KPIs and content performance
  • Maintain social content calendars; Coordinate content reviews and publishing workflows
  • Stay informed on platform updates and evolving social media best practices
  • Support special projects and cross-functional initiatives as needed
  • Actively pursue professional development and contribute to a culture of learning by building skills and sharing knowledge.
