About The Position

Join NYCSBUS as a Social Media & Digital Marketing Intern, a structured learning opportunity designed for candidates with a strong foundation in content creation and social media. This internship provides hands-on experience applying existing skills in digital storytelling, content production, and public sector communications within a mission-driven organization. The intern will support content creation and digital engagement across six depot locations, gaining real-world experience translating day-to-day transportation operations into compelling digital content while helping establish a foundational social media presence and define standards for future content and platforms. The intern will receive guidance on organizational priorities, operations, and storytelling opportunities, building a deeper understanding of how organizations connect with the communities they serve. Throughout the internship, the intern will further develop practical skills in social media, photography, short-form video production (mobile and basic DSLR), and graphic creation while working under general guidance. The role also provides exposure to cross-functional collaboration with leadership, HR, IT and electric-vehicle (EV) teams, and operations staff, offering insight into how real-time projects, recruitment efforts, and innovation initiatives are communicated publicly. This internship is intended for individuals looking to apply and refine their existing skill set in a real-world environment, while gaining additional experience in digital marketing, communication strategy, and community engagement through mentorship and hands-on exposure.

Requirements

  • Eligible to work in the U.S.
  • Currently pursuing a Master’s Degree or recently completed a Bachelor’s
  • Familiarity with major social media platforms (LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook) and how to tailor content for each
  • Ability to conduct a basic social media audit and identify opportunities for growth and engagement
  • Experience creating content calendars and organizing campaigns or posting schedules
  • Familiarity in content creation tools such as Canva, Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar design platforms
  • Experience with short-form video editing tools (CapCut, Adobe Premiere Rush, or similar)
  • Ability to capture quality photo and video content using an iPhone or basic DSLR camera (framing, lighting, composition)
  • Familiarity with social media analytics (TikTok, Instagram, Facebook insights) and ability to interpret performance metrics
  • Comfortable creating presentations and decks (Google Slides, PowerPoint)
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive)
  • Experience or interest in email marketing tools such as Mailchimp, Constant Contact, or similar platforms
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with attention to tone and brand voice
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Comfortable collaborating across teams, including leadership, HR, operations, and technical staff

Responsibilities

  • Support day-to-day social media activities across platforms (LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook) under guidance
  • Capture and create content, including photography, short-form video, and basic graphics that highlight NYCSBUS operations and initiatives
  • Assist in planning content calendars and gain exposure to how content is scheduled and aligned with organizational priorities
  • Gain hands-on experience analyzing engagement metrics and learning how performance insights inform content strategy
  • Learn how digital content is reviewed and aligned with organizational guidelines, messaging standards, and approval processes
  • Gain exposure to on-site operations by visiting NYCSBUS depot locations, supporting content capture efforts under supervision
  • Observe and assist in documenting day-to-day operations and key projects alongside operations staff, General Managers, and fleet teams
  • Support coverage of events, job fairs, and community engagement initiatives while learning how field content is developed
  • Gain exposure to cross-functional collaboration by supporting initiatives involving leadership, HR, IT, EV, and operations teams
  • Assist HR efforts related to recruitment marketing, hiring campaigns, and job fair promotion while learning best practices
  • Observe and support collaboration with IT and EV teams to understand how digital content highlights innovation and electric vehicle initiatives
  • Assist in coordinating with operations teams to ensure content accuracy and alignment under guidance
  • Assist with email marketing initiatives (e.g., newsletters via Mailchimp or similar platforms)
  • Support website updates and broader digital marketing efforts with guidance from team members
  • Contribute to efforts that maintain a consistent and professional brand presence across platforms
  • Assist with special projects and campaigns as assigned
  • Support organization of content libraries and documentation
  • Learn best practices for responsible content creation and publishing within organizational guidelines and under supervision
