The Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Interventionist works at PAWS Academy Hildreth Building, a public day special education therapeutic school serving K–8 students whose behavioral and social-emotional needs significantly affect learning. PAWS offers a highly structured, supportive setting focused on individualized, evidence-based interventions and collaboration with families and school teams. The Interventionist provides instruction, training, and resources to support social-emotional learning throughout classrooms and the school community. The role develops students’ and staff members’ understanding and application of the SEL competencies: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. Using trauma-informed, restorative, and relationship-centered approaches, the Interventionist assesses student needs, supports individualized plans, facilitates restorative practices, and coaches staff in proactive and equitable responses. The position serves as both a student-support consultant and restorative-practices leader on a collaborative, multidisciplinary team.
