About The Position

Harlem Children’s Zone (HCZ) is seeking an enthusiastic, dedicated, and mission-aligned Soccer Coach to lead a brand-new soccer program for elementary, middle, and high school students. The coach will foster a positive, inclusive, and team-oriented environment, guiding students through the fundamentals of soccer while supporting their personal and athletic development. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape a soccer program from its inception and work directly with scholars across various age groups and skill levels. The ideal candidate will bring energy, leadership, and creativity to build a strong foundation for the program, instill a love for the game, and demonstrate a commitment to HCZ's mission of breaking the cycle of intergenerational poverty.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Previous playing and/or coaching experience (Youth or high school level preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of soccer rules, techniques, and strategies at different youth stages.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills to interact with students, parents, and staff.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire athletes.
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Background check clearance (especially for youth coaching).
  • Demonstrated commitment to the mission and programs of HCZ
  • Keen knowledge of soccer regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Highly effective at fostering a culture of accountability, great sportsmanship, respect for others, and self-discipline
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with scholars, parents, staff
  • Robust attention to detail, and must have familiarity with logistics of soccer matches and events
  • High energy, patience, and a positive attitude
  • Knowledge and/or sensitivity to issues prevalent in underserved communities of color

Nice To Haves

  • Relevant Coaching certification (e.g., USSF, UEFA, NSCAA)
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Former soccer athlete/coach is ideal

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging, age-appropriate training sessions for players across K-12 age groups.
  • Develop personalized training programs to meet individual athletes' needs and goals.
  • Instruct players on fundamental skills, advanced techniques, and game strategies.
  • Assess athletes' performance and provide constructive feedback.
  • Inspire and encourage athletes to reach their full potential.
  • Oversee soccer games, tournaments, and practices.
  • Maintain a safe training environment and manage equipment.
