About The Position

Snow Sidewalk Shovelers play an essential role in ensuring safe and accessible pathways for pedestrians during winter weather, making their work vital to community safety and mobility. This role involves applying salt, sand, or de-icing chemicals to surfaces to prevent the formation of ice or to melt existing ice, ensuring safer walking conditions. The job requires creating clear paths wide enough for safe pedestrian passage, ensuring that entrances, exits, ramps, and other critical areas are accessible and safe to use. Operators must be comfortable with extended periods of snow shoveling, operating small machinery, and working in outdoor environments. Sidewalk Laborers often work long shifts, irregular hours, and weekends during snow and ice events. The job requires exposure to cold weather and physical labor.

• Physical Stamina and endurance required for prolonged shoveling and labor in cold weather conditions.
• Comfortable with extended periods of snow shoveling, operating small machinery, and working in outdoor environments.

Responsibilities

• Apply salt, sand, or de-icing chemicals to surfaces to prevent the formation of ice or to melt existing ice, ensuring safer walking conditions.
• Create clear paths wide enough for safe pedestrian passage, ensuring that entrances, exits, ramps, and other critical areas are accessible and safe to use.
• Exercise caution and follow safety protocols to prevent accidents while working in challenging weather conditions and using potentially hazardous equipment.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors, and colleagues regarding the status of snow removal activities, potential hazards, and any issues encountered.
• Maintain accurate records of work performed, including dates, times, areas cleared, and materials used with the First-Choice service verification app.
• Possess the physical stamina and endurance required for prolonged shoveling and labor in cold weather conditions.
• Collaborate with other snow removal team members to ensure efficient and effective snow clearing operations.
• Participate in training sessions related to safe snow operations, equipment handling, and emergency response protocols.
