About The Position

Winter Maintenance Seasonal workers are responsible for snow and ice removal on State highways during inclement weather. Duties will also include performing a variety of highway maintenance tasks. Duties may include but are not limited to performing roadway surface maintenance activities; installing, directing, and replacing signs, delineators and permanent traffic control devices; maintaining and repairing department facilities; performing preventative maintenance and equipment repair; responding to emergencies and other incidents; providing temporary traffic control through and around work zones and emergency sites; and promoting a safe work environment and participating in public safety awareness activities.

Requirements

• Must be 18 years of age.
• Ability to operate heavy equipment.
• Valid driver's license.
• Class A or Class B commercial driver's license (CDL) with a N: Tank Vehicles endorsement.
• Ability to obtain N: Tank Vehicles endorsement within 30 days of hire if not already possessed.
• Willingness to undergo pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion, post-accident, follow-up accident, and return-to-duty drug and alcohol testing.
• Authorization for the Department of Transportation to obtain a complete driving record.
• Willingness to report to work during inclement weather conditions, including weekdays, weekends, holidays, early mornings, and evenings.
• Ability to report to the assigned Department of Transportation Shop within 30 minutes, under normal driving conditions, from the time of notification.
