About The Position

Leidos’ Defense Systems Electronics Manufacturing Facility is seeking a 2nd Shift SMTA Process Engineer Specialist to join their team to create unique solutions for complex problems. This position will be part of an engineering team located in Huntsville AL. The role involves developing, documenting, and executing manufacturing processes and procedures for electronic products, supporting the production of printed circuit board assemblies through various processes including SMT, Through Hole Selective Solder, Press fit, and Conformal Coating. The candidate will collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to develop hardware and work with the latest automated technology in assembly and test equipment. Responsibilities include creating machine programs, overseeing manufacturing activities, working closely with the operations team to complete assemblies, and preparing them for customer delivery. The role also requires close collaboration with the manufacturing team (engineering, operations, quality) to develop processes that validate customer quality requirements and working with production control to meet delivery schedules.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree and 2-4 years of prior relevant experience or a Masters degree with less than 2 years of prior relevant work experience. In lieu of a degree, a HS Diploma with 6 years of experience will be considered.
Willing to work 2nd shift hours (3pm-11:30pm). Must be available to train on 1st shift for a month or longer before moving to 2nd shift.
Experience working with any or all of the following: SMT, PTH, Selective soldering, Conformal Coating processes.
Strong leadership skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently.
Ability to multi-task well.
Experience working with design engineers, manufacturing engineers, and technicians to develop a build strategy and identify any problems that could occur during assembly.
Basic computer skills associated with assembly tasks (retrieving manufacturing documentation, updating system as router steps are completed, etc.).
Must be a resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville - North Alabama, AL area.
Must be a US Citizen and possess (and be able to maintain) a Final Secret Clearance OR meet the eligibility to obtain (and maintain) a Secret Clearance.

Nice To Haves

Experience with Costpoint Material Planning software and/or Agile/Windchill product lifecycle management software.
Experience in various quality roles.
Experience in using Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES).
At least 5 years of manufacturing experience on programs building electronic hardware to government specifications (or similar).
Experience in the following processes and equipment: ASM pick and place, DEK screen printers, BTU ovens, PVA coating machine, Pillarhouse or JUKI selective solder.
Experience with software that maintains bills of materials, and other engineering design data.
Experience with electronics used on launch vehicles, targets, or missile components, and with production of cable harnesses, electronics, and electromechanical assemblies.

Responsibilities

Work with a multi-disciplinary team to develop a wide variety of hardware, and work with the latest automated technology used in assembly and test equipment.
Support tasks such as creating machine programs and overseeing the execution of manufacturing activities.
Work closely with the operations team to complete all details of the assembly, and ultimately to prepare the assembly for delivery to customer.
Work closely with our manufacturing team including engineering, operations, and quality team to develop processes that validate customer quality requirements.
Work closely with production control to meet desired delivery schedule.
