The Production Front Line Supervisor plans, schedules, and directly supervises the work of hourly personnel assigned to their work crew. This role involves achieving established goals for production quantities, product quality, personnel safety, procedural adherence, and security protocol adherence within their assigned area of responsibility. The supervisor sets performance expectations, monitors productivity, and maintains the training and qualifications of assigned workers, matching tasks with employee skills, experience, and training qualifications. They instruct employees in safety controls, equipment, processes, and special fabrication methods and techniques, ensuring employees are qualified to perform assigned functions. Additionally, the supervisor ensures work assignments comply with union contracts and craft jurisdictions, maintains safe work conditions, good housekeeping, and organization of workplace tools and materials. Proactive prevention of injuries, contaminations, or other hazardous exposures is a key aspect of the role. The supervisor obtains work start authorization for daily operations, executes work within required cost and schedule agreements, conducts crew briefs and pre-job briefs, monitors timekeeping and accountable absences, maintains appropriate records, and documents activities and events. Personnel matters, including administration of the bargaining unit contract, are handled by the supervisor, who also interviews, hires, or makes hiring recommendations; evaluates performance, coaches, counsels, rewards, and disciplines employees; and handles employee complaints and personnel problems.
