About The Position

The Smelter Operator 3 Trainee works at the Metallurgical Complex in Columbus, Montana, on a rotating Super 7 schedule consisting of 12-hour shifts. The role involves operating and monitoring processing equipment and systems, recording and analyzing process data, and performing general plant duties. Operators may also use heavy equipment and perform crushing and sizing work.

Requirements

• Meet qualification guidelines pursuant to Article 10, Job Postings, of the current CBA.
• Comprehend and apply basic math, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, and fractions.
• Have working knowledge of pumps, flow processes, valves, electrical concepts, and units of measurement such as psi, flow rate, gpm, and amps.
• Operate equipment such as forklifts and man lifts, as well as basic power and hand tools.
• Understand and follow verbal and visual instructions regarding plant safety and operations.
• Satisfy a Pulmonary Function Test within OSHA standards.

Responsibilities

• Read and understand Process Flow Diagrams and Piping and Instrument Diagrams.
• Operate pumping and agitation equipment.
• Operate filtering equipment.
• Perform circuit monitoring tests and control analyses.
• Record, calculate, and analyze process control parameters and other data.
• Operate valves and instrumentation.
• Understand the theory of operations.
• Operate heavy equipment such as a backhoe, man lift, and forklift.
• Perform miscellaneous duties, including painting and cleanup.
• Perform crushing and sizing.
