About The Position

Amex GBT is seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative accounting professional to support our technology accounting and capitalization processes. This role plays a key part in ensuring compliance with evolving accounting standards, strengthening internal controls, and partnering closely with cross-functional teams.

Requirements

  • US CPA or equivalent accounting credentials is mandatory
  • 5-7 years of accounting experience, with 2+ years focused on Internal-Use Software (ASC 350-40)
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills with the capacity to have professional discussions with project managers and finance teams while maintaining positive working relationships.
  • Create high-quality, well-organized documentation that clearly articulates complex information and serves as reliable reference material for team members.
  • Ability to research and apply new FASB updates, specifically ASU 2025-06, understanding of SEC regulatory frameworks and SOX compliance requirements.

  • Proficiency in Oracle Fusion, Blackline, NetSuite, or SAP, plus familiarity with Jira for tracking development sprints.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the implementation of the updated software capitalization guidance under ASU 2025-06, including the transition to the new “probable-to-complete” recognition model and methodology-neutral approach.
  • Review and assess software development projects to determine capitalization eligibility, with a focus on identifying projects involving significant uncertainty, novel technologies, or unproven solutions.
  • Partner closely with teams to document project approvals, funding commitments, and authorization milestones required for capitalization.
  • Support the integration of acquired businesses by establishing capitalization policies, amortization schedules. SOX controls for development-related costs.
  • Perform annual impairment assessments of technology assets, ensuring useful lives and valuations reflect current technological and market conditions.
  • Prepare, review, and maintain accounting memoranda for significant technology-related contracts, including leases, licenses, SaaS agreements, and other digital services.
  • Monitor new accounting standards and regulatory updates from FASB and other standard-setting bodies, and assess their impact on existing policies, disclosures, and business processes.
  • Manage monthly operational accounting activities, including period-end close, financial reporting, Blackline reconciliations, and variance analysis.
  • Provide support for internal and external audits by preparing documentation, responding to inquiries, and ensuring compliance with company policies and accounting standards.
  • Work closely with the Senior Manager and broader accounting team on special projects, including quarterly management reporting, SOX documentation, and other ad-hoc initiatives.
