About The Position

Effective January 1, 2026, Gore has joined Beneva, the country’s largest mutual insurance company, as part of its Property & Casualty operations in Ontario and Western Canada. During 2026, Gore will combine its operations with Unica Insurance, Beneva’s Ontario-based subsidiary specializing in niche commercial and personal insurance, creating a stronger, more diversified mutual insurer with greater scale and long-term stability. We are seeking a SmartCOMM Developer with strong experience in Smart Communications development, document composition, print workflows, spool/output processing, and JavaScript. This role will design and maintain SmartCOMM templates, data models, shared content, and output configurations to support high-volume print and digital communications. The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience with SmartCOMM Advanced Template Designer, Business Content Studio, data mapping, XML/XSD, batch configurations, print output generation, spool files, and integration with enterprise systems such as Guidewire. Experience with insurance communications, print/mail operations, and archival workflows is preferred.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of SmartCOMM development experience.
  • Formal SmartCOMM training or at least 3 years’ experience working on SmartCOMM & Print related technologies.
  • Strong hands-on experience with JavaScript, Print related/content management related technologies.
  • Proficiency in documenting technical processes and monitoring performance metrics.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, configure, and maintain SmartCOMM templates, layouts, shared content, style sets, and data models for business communications.
  • Build and support print-ready documents, including static and dynamic layouts, headers/footers, conditional sections, reusable content blocks, forms, letters, notices, policy documents, billing documents, and claims correspondence.
  • Develop and maintain SmartCOMM data models, including XML schemas, business object mappings, input data structures, and transformation logic to support accurate document generation.
  • Configure and support batch and on-demand document generation workflows, including template selectors, output configurations, batch configurations, and post-processing requirements.
  • Create and execute unit testing, component testing, regression testing, and document validation to ensure output accuracy across print and digital channels.
  • Support print processes and spool management, including generation of print output files, print streams, file packaging, sorting, bundling, archival copies, and coordination with downstream print vendors or print operations teams.
  • Maintain technical documentation including template design specifications, data mapping documents, print/spool handling instructions, deployment notes, and operational support guides.

  • Troubleshoot issues related to document rendering, missing data, formatting defects, print output, spool files, pagination, barcode/OMR marks, envelopes, inserts, and delivery channel failures.
  • Work closely with business analysts, product owners, QA teams, business stakeholders, print operations, and external vendors to gather requirements and translate them into technical SmartCOMM solutions.
  • Model team values including ownership, curiosity, and open, constructive communication.
  • Participating as a core member of Gore IT's distributed network of senior technical resources, contributing expertise and alignment across shared engineering concerns such as platform stability, release quality, security posture, and operational readiness.
  • Establish consistent code review practices and ensure adherence to development standards.
  • Support sprint planning, backlog refinement, and technical prioritization.
  • Drive continuous improvement through adoption of modern tools, practices, and emerging technologies (including AI-assisted development).
