About The Position

We are seeking a SMART on FHIR Developer with strong healthcare interoperability experience to support the design, development, and integration of secure digital health applications within a complex clinical systems environment. This role requires a hands-on developer who can build applications that integrate with clinical platforms, consume and expose healthcare data, and support interoperability across broader digital health ecosystems. The ideal candidate will bring deep experience with FHIR, healthcare data standards, secure application development, and API-based integrations, with the ability to deliver scalable, compliant solutions in a regulated healthcare environment.

Requirements

  • Hands-on background building SMART on FHIR applications in healthcare or digital health environments.
  • Strong understanding of FHIR resources, profiles, APIs, and healthcare data standards, including HL7.
  • Backend development expertise using .NET/C#, Node.js, or similar technologies.
  • Practical knowledge of RESTful API design, system integration, and interoperability patterns.
  • Working knowledge of Azure-based services, with exposure to Azure API Management or similar API gateway/API management platforms considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with EHR/EMR environments and clinical workflows.
  • Background developing secure applications for regulated environments, preferably healthcare.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare data mapping, transformation, privacy, consent, and access control concepts.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and modern software development practices.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to front-end frameworks such as React or Angular for SMART application user interfaces is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and support SMART on FHIR applications that integrate with clinical systems.
  • Implement authentication and authorization workflows using OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect.
  • Build and integrate backend services to support healthcare data exchange across connected systems.
  • Work with FHIR-based data models, APIs, and interoperability standards to support application development.
  • Integrate applications and services with Azure-based platforms and cloud services.
  • Collaborate with data engineers, architects, Business Analysts, and delivery teams to map, transform, and exchange healthcare data.
  • Support integration with EHR/EMR platforms and clinical workflows.
  • Build secure, compliant applications that align with healthcare privacy, consent, security, and data access requirements.
  • Participate in code reviews, testing, deployment, and CI/CD activities.
  • Troubleshoot integration issues, data flow challenges, and application performance concerns across connected systems.
