About The Position

The BGIS Smart Buildings Energy Manager is responsible for leveraging expertise in energy management and building control systems to optimize building performance, reduce energy consumption, and lower greenhouse gas emissions. The ideal candidate will apply advanced tools such as Fault Detection Diagnostics and building automation system (BAS) resequencing to enhance energy efficiency across a portfolio of buildings. This role involves collaborating with cross-disciplinary teams to design, implement, and monitor energy-saving measures while ensuring the continuous improvement of building systems. The Smart Building Energy Manager will play a pivotal role in advancing sustainability goals and driving innovation in building energy systems. This role requires a forward-thinking individual committed to achieving operational excellence and environmental stewardship.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Energy Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in energy management, BAS optimization, and building systems technology.
  • Demonstrated track record of identifying and deploying energy conservation measures in commercial buildings.
  • More than 5 years of job-related experience.
  • Strong knowledge of building automation systems, energy conservation measures, and HVAC control strategies.
  • Experience in Fault Detection Diagnostics, BAS resequencing, and continuous commissioning practices.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools and energy modeling software.
  • Familiarity with IPMVP measurement and verification standards.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively across teams and disciplines.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM) or equivalent certification is preferred.
  • LEED or CMVP accreditation is a strong asset.
  • Certified Energy Management Professional from Association of Energy Engineers, an asset

Responsibilities

  • Conduct BAS assessments to identify opportunities for energy and operational efficiency.
  • Develop and implement energy optimization strategies, including retro-commissioning and demand management measures.
  • Utilize Fault Detection Diagnostics and advanced analytics to identify system inefficiencies and recommend corrective actions.
  • Optimize HVAC and lighting systems using data-driven control strategies to reduce energy consumption.
  • Identify and prioritize buildings for energy retrofit projects.
  • Lead the design, development, and execution of energy-saving projects, including feasibility studies, audits, and implementation.
  • Collaborate with consultants, contractors, and building teams to ensure project delivery within budget and timelines.
  • Oversee measurement and verification (M&V) processes to quantify the impact of energy-saving initiatives.
  • Monitor building performance metrics to ensure systems are operating at peak efficiency.
  • Develop and maintain energy performance tracking systems to identify trends and anomalies.
  • Coordinate with building technicians and facility managers to implement ongoing commissioning and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Act as a technical resource for energy management and BAS optimization for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Deliver training sessions to staff on energy efficiency practices and tools.
  • Lead energy-saving committees and facilitate communication between teams to share best practices.
  • Prepare and deliver detailed energy performance and savings reports to stakeholders based on the results of optimization projects.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of energy projects and system improvements.
