About The Position

The Small Engine (General Tool) Repair Technician is responsible for ensuring that Stephenson's General Tool equipment is in strong and reliable condition for customers. This role involves actively listening to customer needs, demonstrating care and understanding, and prioritizing safety. The technician will inspect, test, diagnose, and repair various pieces of equipment to ensure they meet quality and safety standards and are rental-ready. The position also involves providing guidance to Service Technicians, assisting in equipment retirement decisions, and transferring product knowledge to customers. Additionally, the role supports in-store merchandising, follows all administrative procedures related to equipment servicing, and maintains inventory control documents. Health and Safety are paramount, with all employees sharing the responsibility for maintaining a safe work environment, adhering to safety commitments, PPE requirements, SOPs, and governing laws, and reporting any unsafe conditions.

Requirements

  • 2 years working with small engines, electrical repair, manual and power tools or similar experience
  • Valid G-Class (ON)/Class 5 (AB) Driver’s License with clean abstract.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs on a regular basis.
  • A strong mechanical aptitude and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Nice To Haves

  • Small engine trades and/or G2 Gas certification is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair all of Stephenson’s General Tool equipment including demo hammers, tampers, drills, aerators, lawn and garden equipment.
  • Ensure all equipment is rental-ready and meet set quality and safety standards.
  • Follow the appropriate checklist and procedures. Can read and refer to owner’s manuals and schematics.
  • Operate and test equipment (under actual operating conditions, if possible).
  • Provide guidance to Service Technicians on the appropriate service/repairs required.
  • Assist in making decisions related to equipment retirement.
  • Possess excellent product knowledge and can effectively transfer this knowledge to customers. This includes explaining features and benefits, safe operating techniques and promoting related accessories/products.
  • Treat every customer in a fair and consistent manner, resolving issues as they arise.
  • Support in-store merchandising initiatives, including pricing, inventory control, product placement, etc.
  • Follow all paperwork and computer procedures related to servicing of equipment.
  • Maintain all inventory control documents to preserve the integrity of the rental management computer system.
  • Participate in and ensure daily “COMPASS” is complete.
  • Keep themselves and all others safe by following the Safety Commitments, PPE requirements and all SOPs and Policies as laid out by Stephenson’s and governing laws.
  • Report any unsafe working conditions and ensuring that they and their co-workers at all levels of work are wearing their PPE and following our SOPs and policies.
