About The Position

Assist grounds or maintenance personnel in performing a trade primarily but not limited to assisting the Grounds Small Engine Mechanic. Adhere to federal and state laws, as well as district policies, procedures, and regulations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • six (6) months experience assisting in a shop environment or one (1) year experience in grounds or maintenance related duties.
  • Must be familiar with the use of common automotive hand tools
  • must have a valid Texas/New Mexico driver's license
  • must be insurable by the District's auto liability insurance carrier
  • ability to read, write, speak and understand English.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with assigned trade area under direct or indirect supervision, such as but not limited to various field duties pertaining to the Grounds Department.
  • Perform intermediate skilled work maintaining and repairing automotive fleet and small equipment.
  • Perform repairs and maintenance of small engines and other equipment.
  • Inspect and service automobiles, trucks, buses, and other department equipment.
  • Change and repair tires and respond to road service calls.
  • Perform tune-ups on cars, trucks, buses, tractors, and other small engines.
  • Diagnose heating and air conditioning systems and makes repairs.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical controls and motors.
  • Inspect suspension and exhaust systems and makes repairs.
  • Assist in the overhaul and replacement of major drive chain components such as engines, transmissions, etc.
  • Assist in ordering and obtaining necessary parts and supplies.
  • Fuel, wash, and clean vehicles and other equipment.
  • Assist in coordinating the use of administrative vehicles.
  • Assist with loading and unloading of warehouse supply trucks.
  • Tow broken-down vehicles.
  • Assist with maintenance on vehicles as time permits.
  • Provide assistance to other crews as needed.
  • Respond to after-hour emergencies as requested.
  • Be available to work various shifts and respond to service calls.
  • Attendance at the work site is required to meet essential functions of the job.
  • Participate in professional development activities as required by the district.
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties; support district/department goals.
  • Maintain a professional code of ethics and perform other duties as assigned.
