About The Position

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This is a Small Craft Operator XF-5786-10 with the USACE Galveston District, Engineering and Construction Division, Hydro Survey Section located in Galveston, TX. Recruitment/Relocation Incentive MAY BE Offered

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) - This position is subject to pre-employment and random drug testing.
  • Incumbent must possess and maintain a Motorboat Operator's license issued by U.S. Coast Guard Marine Inspection Service.
  • Physical required.
  • Employee must be able to obtain and maintain a state issued commercial driver's license.

  • Ability to do the work of a(n SMALL CRAFT OPERATOR without more than normal supervision which includes performing common operation of a boat, determining and following courses on the water, boat maintenance and make minor engine repairs and perform inspections.
  • Must have the ability to perform the most difficult and complex operation, navigation using Hydrographic Software and maintenance of boats at least 26 feet in length, engine repair, towing boats over land, launching and retrieving of boats from trailers, operate electrical equipment such as generators, VHF radios, operate surveying equipment associated with field data acquisition and data downloading for topographic, hydrographic and construction surveys.

Responsibilities

  • Perform repairs to government-owned small vessels.
  • Make independent judgments and decisions within the framework of oral or written instructions.
  • Use skills needed to operate vessels in swift or shallow water and under difficult weather conditions.
  • Operate government-owned vehicles to tow vessels over public roadways.
  • Follow safety rules and supervisor’s instructions on work sequence, procedures, method and deadlines to be met.
