About The Position

This position description covers underwriting positions for Direct, Indirect or Small Business Lending. This position is primarily responsible for new loan application analysis, underwriting and declination review noting that the importance of this function impacts long term company goals and objectives. The incumbent plays a major role in the acquisition of loan assets utilizing appropriate risk management discipline.

Requirements

  • BA or BS degree
  • 3 years of experience
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Excellent organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to use a personal computer and job-related software
  • MS Word - Basic Level
  • MS Excel - Intermediate Level

  • Legally authorized to work in the U.S.

Nice To Haves

  • Four (4) years of commensurate experience or two (2) years of commensurate experience with an associate degree in lieu of the education requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews loan applications from consumers and small businesses from various channels to evaluate risk and determine acceptance.
  • Verifies all application information for accuracy and completeness by validating loan data against provided documentation.
  • Assesses repayment capacity, collateral valuations, credit histories, and other banking relationships to mitigate risk.
  • Ensures compliance with the Bank’s policies and procedures for underwriting loans.
  • Complies with regulations regarding declinations and ensures timely notification.
  • Develops partnerships with loan processors and Bank branch personnel to enhance customer satisfaction.
  • Maintains customer relationships developed by loan originators.
  • Performs tax return analysis to determine income for self-employed borrowers.
  • Obtains and compiles credit histories, corporate financial statements, tax returns, collateral valuations, and other financial information.
  • Reviews appraisal reports for accuracy and completeness.
  • Approves loans up to a set loan authority.
  • Educates other Bank personnel on policy, credit risk tolerance, and regulatory factors.
  • Stays informed about new loan types and financial services to meet customer needs.
  • Performs other related duties and projects as assigned.
  • Serves as a risk manager by understanding, reporting, responding to, managing, and monitoring risks encountered daily.
