The work of the Local Economy Development (LED) Department is focused on empowering Calgarians to move towards economic prosperity through entrepreneurship. The LED department delivers small business training, provides microloans and offers one-on-one business coaching. This Small Business Facilitator, Casual position supports the LED department by facilitating Momentum’s Entering Entrepreneurship (EE), Business Feasibility Study (BFS), Part-time Self-Employment (PSE), and Self-Employment (SE) programs on a casual basis and providing coverage for program facilitators as needed. This may include facilitating Momentum’s curriculum, hosting guest-speaker-led sessions, and supporting participants with 1:1 business coaching sessions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in small business, communications, adult education, economics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience facilitating for adult learners, both in-person and online.
  • Strong facilitation and communication skills, with an ability to create inclusive, engaging, and supportive learning environments.
  • Solid understanding of small business development and entrepreneurship, and experience operating your own small business.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds, including those living on low incomes and/or facing systemic barriers.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with a collaborative and community-centred approach.
  • Excellent organizational skills, including time management, attention to detail, and the ability to engage in multiple programs/projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint) and Zoom.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to coach participants 1:1 is an asset (business coaching).
  • Coaching certification (ICF) is an asset.
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems (e.g., D2L Brightspace) and business planning tools (e.g., LivePlan) is an asset.
  • Knowledge of community economic development, human-centred design, or trauma-informed practices is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the EE, BFS, PSE, and SE program curriculum as needed, using engaging and inclusive facilitation techniques in both online and in-person settings.
  • Support participants through the business development process, including providing feedback and ensuring business plans meet requirements for financing consideration.
  • Collaborate with the LED team to ensure smooth transitions between programs and services, and to connect participants with additional resources as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to reporting and evaluation processes through data entry, narrative updates, and participant feedback analysis.
  • Reflect Momentum’s values through collaborative teamwork, community involvement, and a commitment to continuous learning and improvement.
