About The Position

Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine (RUSVM) is seeking a Small Animal Surgery Faculty member to join a collaborative and supportive team. This in-person role, located on the Caribbean island of St. Kitts, involves contributing to the instruction of small animal surgery across multiple courses, participating in didactic courses, and engaging in preclinical laboratory instruction. The position also includes providing surgical consultations within the on-campus community practice clinic and mentoring faculty. Candidates are expected to develop an active research program, with support from the School for research in infectious diseases and animal health in tropical environments, and are encouraged to pursue external funding. Service to the institution, including committee participation and postgraduate mentorship, is also an integral part of the role.

Requirements

  • Must be willing to reside on the Caribbean island of St Kitts
  • A DVM or equivalent degree and board certification in Small Animal Surgery (ACVS or ECVS) are required.
  • Developing a research program aligned with the School’s focus areas—whether discipline-specific or in veterinary education—is essential.

Nice To Haves

  • A PhD in addition to a DVM is highly preferred.
  • Candidates with experience or interest in innovative, student-centered teaching methods are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Prior teaching experience at an AVMA-accredited institution or equivalent is preferred.
  • The ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a proven ability to work collaboratively within a collegial academic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to team-taught courses in small animal surgery
  • Teach in case-based and other relevant didactic courses
  • Participate in Essential Veterinary Skills (EVS) laboratory sessions
  • Provide clinical consultation and mentorship to faculty in the Ross University Veterinary Clinic
  • Establish an independent and/or collaborative research program
  • Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals
  • Present research at national and international scientific conferences
  • Serve on university and departmental committees
  • Participate in the supervision and mentoring of Master’s and PhD students
  • Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned by departmental leadership
