About The Position

The Slope Maintenance Helper is responsible for assisting with the maintenance, improvement, and preparation of Bear Valley Mountain Resort's ski slopes and mountain infrastructure during the spring, summer, and fall seasons. This position supports trail maintenance, erosion control, terrain park fabrication, snowmaking system maintenance, and general Mountain Operations projects. Employees may also assist other resort departments, including Building Maintenance and Lift Maintenance, as operational needs require. This position requires individuals who enjoy working outdoors, operating equipment, performing physical labor, and contributing to projects that improve the guest experience and prepare the mountain for winter operations.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to learn.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and lift up to 50 lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with construction, landscaping, trail work, welding, fabrication, or heavy equipment is preferred.
  • Ability to safely operate hand and power tools.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with construction and maintenance of ski trails and mountain access roads.
  • Perform brushing, tree trimming, vegetation removal, and hazard mitigation.
  • Install and maintain trail signs, fencing, and boundary markers.
  • Operate hand and power tools safely.
  • Assist with grading and preparation of ski runs.
  • Install water bars, drainage ditches, culverts, and erosion control systems.
  • Repair trail washouts and damaged slopes.
  • Spread seed, mulch, erosion blankets, and other stabilization materials.
  • Maintain drainage systems throughout the resort.
  • Assist in the fabrication, repair, painting, and maintenance of terrain park rails, boxes, and features.
  • Operate metalworking equipment including grinders, saws, drills, and welding equipment when trained.
  • Prepare terrain park features for winter installation.
  • Maintain fabrication shop cleanliness and organization.
  • Assist with summer inspection, maintenance, and repair of snowmaking infrastructure.
  • Repair and maintain hydrants, valves, pedestals, snow guns, hoses, compressors, and pipelines.
  • Assist with pressure testing, painting, lubrication, and preventative maintenance.
  • Prepare snowmaking equipment for winter operations.
  • Assist Grooming, Lift Maintenance, Building Maintenance, Terrain Park, and other Mountain Operations departments as assigned.
  • Operate ATVs, UTVs, pickup trucks, trailers, and other equipment after training.
  • Load, unload, and transport materials and equipment throughout the resort.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and organized condition.
  • Complete daily work logs and report maintenance issues to supervisors.
  • Follow all company safety policies and OSHA standards.
  • Collaborate with the marketing and events teams to meet the visual and functional needs of on-hill venues.
