About The Position

Polyplex is seeking a dedicated and safety-conscious Slitting Operator to join their team. The role involves operating secondary slitting machinery to produce film products according to the production plan. Key responsibilities include monitoring process variables, ensuring accurate data entry, handling raw materials, preparing solutions, waste management, and performing various machine adjustments and maintenance tasks. The operator will also be responsible for quality checks, participating in safety and production meetings, and adhering to company policies and procedures, including 5S, TPM, and ISO standards. This position requires a strong understanding of safety protocols and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve process issues effectively.

  • Must complete ACT WorkKeys with scoring at least a level 4 in Applied Mathematics, Reading for Information, and Locating Information prior to hire.

  • High School or GED.
  • 2 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Read and follow work instructions in the work group area.
  • Produce film products with assigned machine per the run plan.
  • Perform data entry for the entire process, including raw materials, downtime, jumbo rolls, properties, and slit rolls.
  • Monitor data entry during the shift and for all issued materials from stores.
  • Ensure all logbooks, checklists, and required formats are followed during the shift.
  • Monitor the production plan to execute activities for pending plans.
  • Feed raw material based on product recipe.
  • Execute raw material handling, charging, and monitor consumption.
  • Prepare coating solutions as per the run plan, monitor consumption and coating quality, and update the chemical inventory to the Shift Supervisor.
  • Remove dust from the dryer dust bin and dispose of it at the designated place, including monitoring dust weight.
  • Maintain EG level in CO-ex vacuum, clean melt traps, and dispose of chips collected from the metal separator.
  • Drain and collect chips in case of any emergency.
  • Handle end-to-end waste within the shift, including charging recyclable waste in cutting mills and disposing of irrecoverable waste.
  • Execute filter changeover processes as per written procedure and allocated time or as needed.
  • Handle process failures such as film breaks, blade breaks, and film removal from the machine.
  • De-chock cutting mills and fluff piping.
  • Remove lumps from the dryer and crystallizer.
  • Perform process mandatory tasks like DLC, vacuum filter change, doctor blade change, and roll cleaning.
  • Adjust the corona gap as needed and repair corona roll punctures.
  • Report machine problems and perform minor machine adjustments and troubleshooting.
  • Start up the line after shutdown and shut down the line.
  • Participate in shutdown planning and perform activities as per the shutdown plan.
  • Perform die and feed block changeover, melt line cleaning, die & feed block cleaning and assembly, screw removal, cleaning, and assembly.
  • Relieve/support fellow team members as needed for smooth operation.
  • Monitor and measure silo levels, temperatures, machine speed, and feed load.
  • Ensure proper documentation is completed.
  • Feed the grinder for any film breaks or cutbacks.
  • Clear cores with the offline grinder.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Inspect jumbo rolls prior to set-up for any defects and correct coding and labels.
  • Conduct visual observations while the machine is running to prevent quality defects.
  • Complete quality checks per work instructions & SOPs after a roll is completed.
  • Participate in the analysis of quality-related issues to identify root causes and collaborate on solutions.
  • Maintain proper housekeeping of the entire line based on 5S principles.
  • Communicate effectively during shift changes as per protocol.
  • Participate in daily and monthly safety talks and production meetings.
  • Comply with overtime requirements per the shift schedule and procedure.
  • Implement, assist, and follow all requirements under various concepts (5-S, TPM, Integrated Management System – ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001 & ISO 22000).
  • Maintain all documents/records per Work Instructions in the department area.
  • Perform problem-solving techniques like Why-Why and Cause & Effect analysis.
  • Prepare and train on OPLs (One Point Lessons).
  • Execute condition monitoring as per schedule for indicators like vibration, temperature, sound, current, etc., and perform CBM activities.
