About The Position

The Slitter/Rewind Operator is responsible for the set-up and operation of their designated machine, ensuring accuracy and quality of the product being produced. This role also includes training new employees and adhering to all safety procedures, quality standards, and company policies.

Requirements

  • Reading skills necessary to properly understand production orders, designate specific plates, understand materials, reports, warning signs, etc.
  • Ability to distinguish subtle shades of colors accurately.
  • Ability to lift 50 – 75-pound rolls without assistance and manipulate 100 – 300 pounds with mechanical devices.
  • Ability to read a ruler and have other general math skills to measure roll diameters, roll widths, package sizes, etc.
  • Directionality to distinguish right and left sides of machinery and follow operating instructions.
  • Agility (bending, stooping, squatting, climbing, etc.) to adjust equipment and avoid dangerous moving machinery.
  • Excellent reflexes for quick response time on moving machinery.
  • Completely alert at all times to operate machinery properly.
  • Good sense of smell to distinguish odors from materials and smell smoke.
  • Good hearing to follow directions and coordinate procedures with fellow employees and hear warning signals.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow detailed instructions without constant supervision.
  • Spatial skills to judge dimensions necessary for machinery operation.
  • Mechanical ability to learn how the machine operates, including anilox rollers, cylinders, tension controls, safety mechanisms, etc.
  • Ability to logically deduce the source of a problem on the slitter/rewinder, propose a solution, and carry out that solution.
  • Ability to carry out procedures in an initial sequence and repeat or alter them for future orders.
  • Eyesight (whether correct or not) which distinguishes hairlines, registration, mounting accuracy and ink lay-down for print suitable quality.
  • Maturity and disposition to operate safely at all times.
  • Understanding and ability to implement safety emergency procedures.
  • Physical strength to stand for lengthy periods of time.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all required safety procedures, including the use of PPE, understanding chemical hazards, and maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Read and understand job jackets/orders.
  • Establish and follow quality checking procedures.
  • Effectively communicate with supervisor, oncoming shift, and management.
  • Complete cleanup and other procedures related to job completion.
  • Understand line clearance procedures.
  • Keep the rewind area clean, including cleaning at the end of the shift.
  • Stay busy when the rewind machine is down.
  • Make proper computer entries.
  • Follow the chain of command for communication.
  • Be at the workstation within 3 minutes of reporting time.
  • Comply with all regulatory, facility food safety, and quality policies and procedures, including product safety (GMPs).
  • Operate machinery in a proper manner, reacting to rapidly moving parts to avoid injury.
  • Communicate operating problems to the supervisor.
  • Record information electronically as required.
  • Interact with and follow instructions from quality control or management to maintain specified quality standards.
  • Perform meticulous work under production demand.
