Position Overview: The Slitter Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining the slitting line to produce high-quality slit steel coils in accordance with production requirements and quality standards. This role includes machine setup, equipment adjustments, material handling, inspection of finished products, and reporting production data. The Slitter Operator works closely with team members, supervisors, and maintenance personnel to ensure safe, efficient, and continuous operation of the slitting line.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Ability to read and interpret gauges, dials, and measuring devices
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures and industrial conditions
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds frequently

Nice To Haves

  • 1 to 3 years of industrial or manufacturing experience preferred
  • 3 to 5 years of steel industry or slitting line experience preferred
  • Experience making mechanical adjustments to industrial equipment

Responsibilities

  • Perform all operational duties required to produce quality material on the slitting line, including machine setup, loading, operation, and offloading of material
  • Set up knives and tooling, change over slitter arms, and adjust controls required to operate the slitting line efficiently
  • Operate material handling equipment to move steel coils and finished materials throughout the production process
  • Observe incoming and finished materials for defects and report equipment malfunctions or quality concerns to supervision
  • Band, bundle, tack weld, tag, and identify slit coils according to production requirements and instructions
  • Maintain production standards while ensuring product quality and minimizing downtime
  • Assist with maintaining tooling through proper handling, cleaning, and storage practices
  • Complete daily production, time, and material usage reports accurately
  • Work collaboratively with other Slitter Operators, Supervisors, and Maintenance personnel to meet production goals
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment at all times
  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and safe work practices
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor
