About The Position

The operator assumes leadership of the slitter crew, supervising processing, conducting in-process inspections, and ensuring seamless alignment of operational requirements with directives from plant management. This role requires efficient operation of a steel slitting line, adherence to production schedules, and supervision of support personnel. The operator is also responsible for administrative tasks, training new personnel, and upholding strict safety regulations.

Requirements

  • High school education or GED required.
  • Ability to work safely and efficiently in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work on your feet on a concrete floor for the entire shift.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with others and work well in a team environment.
  • Precise hand-eye coordination to handle equipment and materials effectively.
  • Capacity to endure repetitive tasks and maintain focus for extended periods.
  • Ability to hear warning signals and communicate effectively in a noisy environment.
  • Clear vision is necessary to inspect materials and read gauges and instruments accurately.
  • Proficiency in operating specialized machinery such as Slitters, band breakers, pneumatic banders/crimpers, hand banders, hand cutters, staple guns, electric shears, and nibblers.
  • Proficiency in operating auxiliary tools like Jib cranes for material handling, precision instruments like micrometers and calipers for measurements, pneumatic impact wrenches for assembly tasks, and standard tools such as tape measures and calculators.
  • Proficiency in operating specialized tools like ID/OD calculator wheels and Rockwell machines.

Responsibilities

  • Operates steel slitting line efficiently and follows operational protocols.
  • Adheres to production schedules by executing machine orders accurately.
  • Directs and supervises associated support personnel to ensure smooth workflow.
  • Provides steel samples as required for quality control purposes.
  • Assumes responsibility for executing all assigned administrative tasks.
  • Trains and mentors slitter helpers/slitter setup personnel to transition into operator roles effectively.
  • Upholds strict adherence to safety regulations outlined in the Plant Employees Manual, ensuring the protection of personnel and facilities.
  • Demonstrates punctuality and adherence to attendance policies outlined in the Attendance Policy section of the Plant Employee Manual.
  • Maintains orderly work areas and adheres to production schedules.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves issues that may arise during operations.
  • Makes quick decisions to optimize processes and minimize downtime.
  • Adapts to changing demands and works effectively under pressure.
  • Communicates effectively for coordinating with team members and reporting any issues promptly.
