Position Description Title: Converting Operator Department: Converting Immediate Supervisor: Manufacturing Manager Status: Non-Exempt Hourly Position Purpose: Safely operate the converting equipment to meet production goals efficiently. Perform set-ups and ensure that the quality and quantity of the product meet defined standards. The Converting Operator is responsible for maintaining the equipment and keeping the work area orderly and clean as defined in 5S standards. The Converting Operator is expected to follow all company and safety policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Must be able to work a rotating flexible schedule including days, evenings, overnights
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to perform repetitive and heavy lifting (up to 55 pounds)
  • Must be able to read, write, and understand printed material
  • Use of required personal protective equipment
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with high attention to detail
  • Extended periods of standing, and other physically demanding conditions
  • Lifting, moving or manipulating objects
  • Ability to meet consistent attendance
  • Highschool diploma or equivalent
  • Work well independently and in a team setting
  • Good understanding of production procedures
  • Adherence to health and safety regulations
  • Ability to operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manner
  • Ability to read work instructions and machine setup manuals
  • Strong technical and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to prioritize and manage conflicting demands
  • High attention to detail

  • Minimum 3 year of manufacturing experience an asset

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures and standards for cost control, waste reduction, quality, safety, and complete and on-time delivery
  • Ensure high standards of workmanship and efficiency
  • Ensure outputs meet production schedules, safety and quality standards
  • Ensure proper use of required Personal Protective Equipment at all times
  • Follow manufacturing and processing procedures, carry out production and inspection processes
  • Overall responsibility for operations of all the slitting and packaging equipment on the line
  • Mark, record, and report defective products
  • Maintain a clean working area free from dirt and debris between tasks and at end of day
  • Communicate with lead hand, supervisors, engineers, production control, quality and other shop personnel to resolve equipment or quality issues
  • Ensure the proper material and packaging is at the machine
  • Assist the packer when required
  • Trouble shooting and making minor repairs, including changing shafts and blades
  • Set up slitter operating set points and adjustments
  • Prepare and mount/thread jumbo rolls
  • Change end rolls
  • Place full box of tape on skids
  • Label and stamp boxes
  • Do change overs on machines when necessary
  • Do re-tab as they come off the machine
  • Additional duties as required
