About The Position

The operator assumes leadership of the slitter crew, supervising processing, conducting in-process inspections, and ensuring seamless alignment of operational requirements with directives from plant management. This role requires efficient operation of a steel slitting line, adherence to production schedules, and supervision of support personnel. The operator is also responsible for providing steel samples for quality control, completing administrative tasks, and training new personnel. A strong emphasis is placed on safety and punctuality.

Requirements

  • High school education or GED required.
  • Ability to work safely and efficiently in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work on your feet on a concrete floor for the entire shift.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with others and work well in a team environment.
  • Prolonged periods of standing, walking, and operating machinery.
  • Precise hand-eye coordination to handle equipment and materials effectively.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and manipulate heavy materials and equipment.
  • Capacity to endure repetitive tasks and maintain focus for extended periods.
  • Ability to hear warning signals and communicate effectively in a noisy environment.
  • Clear vision is necessary to inspect materials and read gauges and instruments accurately.
  • Problem-solving skills: Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues that may arise during operations.
  • Capable of making quick decisions to optimize processes and minimize downtime.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing demands and work effectively under pressure.
  • Effective communication is essential for coordinating with team members and reporting any issues promptly.
  • Maintain orderly work areas and adhere to production schedules.

Responsibilities

  • Operates steel slitting line efficiently and follows operational protocols.
  • Adheres to production schedules by executing machine orders accurately.
  • Directs and supervises associated support personnel to ensure smooth workflow.
  • Provides steel samples as required for quality control purposes.
  • Assumes responsibility for executing all assigned administrative tasks.
  • Trains and mentors slitter helpers/slitter setup personnel to transition into operator roles effectively.
  • Upholds strict adherence to safety regulations outlined in the Plant Employees Manual, ensuring the protection of personnel and facilities.
  • Demonstrates punctuality and adherence to attendance policies outlined in the Attendance Policy section of the Plant Employee Manual.
  • Other duties as assigned.
