About The Position

The Slitter Machine Operator is responsible for accurately slitting and wrapping rolls of printed product in preparation for shipment or transfer to the Converting department. This role requires strong attention to detail and basic mechanical aptitude to ensure precise machine setup, minimize material waste, and consistently produce high-quality finished products.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • Ability to read and translate measurements using both the imperial and metric systems.
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills.
  • Excellent time management.
  • Proficient in the English language.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Read dockets and confirm the information
  • Set up the slitting machine as per the specifications listed
  • Load, shaft and run rolls through the slitting machine
  • Input information pertaining to the job into TORI
  • Confirm slit size and “slit” pass with Extrusion and Slitting Manager
  • Prepare 6 cores, cut cores, obtain material required for the next shift
  • Order film and cores for upcoming orders
  • Supply samples of each product to the docket for a future run
  • Build skids safely in accordance with customer guidelines
  • Strap skids when completed for removal from department
  • Fill out NMR’s and Action request, assist with rework or repair activities and keep a record of work orders for maintenance
  • Perform “Hammer testing” on cores of finished product checking “snugness” on orders 8” or less in length
  • Create skid tags, label products and skids, wrap, weigh and core plug all rolls
  • Place completed dockets in designated areas for the Production Scheduler
  • Check-in TORI to make sure all the rolls are used
  • Other duties as required or requested by the Print Operations and Slitting Manager and Supervisor.
