Barfield is more than just a prestigious name in the industry: it is a subsidiary of Air France Industries KLM Engineering. We are looking to hire a dedicated Slide & Oxygen Technician to join our team who will support our Operations Department. Founded in 1945, Barfield has six facilities located near airports in Miami (MIA), Phoenix (PHX), Louisville (SDF), Atlanta (ATL), and Doral (MIA), to satisfy the needs of customers operating commercial or regional aircraft in North, Central, and South America. Barfield is part of the Air France Industries KLM Engineering & Maintenance (AFI KLM E&M) network, a major MRO provider. With a workforce of 14,000, AFI KLM E&M offers technical support for airlines, ranging from airframe maintenance to engine overhaul and repair, and supply of components.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or its equivalent.
  • Understand, read, and write English, and have knowledge of basic math.
  • Must be able to follow written instructions using schematic diagrams, Component Maintenance Manuals (CMMs), Airline EO’s, and other FAA-approved technical documents.
  • Ability to learn the use of basic test equipment, including but not limited to Pressure Gauges, Hydrostatic Testers, Micrometers, Dial Indicators, Torque Wrenches, Calipers, and other precision measuring equipment.
  • Must be adaptive and willing to engage new concepts, processes, and technical capabilities.
  • Dexterity with hand tools.
  • Must be mindful and proactive regarding safety procedures.
  • Must be able to identify hazards and follow the shop processes to ensure personal safety and the safety of others.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical college or Military training is a plus.
  • Have a friendly and positive attitude.
  • Always be ready to learn new skills and concepts and adapt to changing workflow demands.
  • Be a team player willing to cross-train in other areas, such as logistics and metrology, and support those areas when needed.
  • Have a willingness to understand customer contracts.

Responsibilities

  • Using FAA-approved data, can learn to pretest, disassemble, repair/overhaul, assemble, and final test aircraft components, including but not limited to Slides, Rafts, Oxygen Cylinders/tanks, Oxygen Masks, and similar components.
  • Reports to the Shop Lead Technician or Shop Manager.
  • Considered trainable in his or her position.
  • Some supervision is expected.
  • Must be willing to learn new skills to advance within the company.
  • Must be willing to follow company policies and procedures.
  • Ability to routinely lift and manipulate heavy objects.
  • Keep a clean work area.
  • Other duties as assigned.
