About The Position

Writopia Lab, an award-winning 501(C)(3) nonprofit that runs the country's best creative writing workshops for kids and teens, is looking for a Social Worker for our twelve-day sleepaway camp in the Berkshire Mountains. Camp runs from Sunday, August 9th through Friday August 21st. Applicants must be available for this entire period. WriCampia is a creative writing and arts-oriented sleepaway camp for kids ages 10 to 18. Our young writers spend the day participating in creative writing workshops, literary electives, and typical camp activities, such as boating and swimming. WriCampia 2026 will be held at Camp Danbee in the Berkshire Mountains. Transportation between New York City or Washington, DC and camp will be provided by Writopia Lab.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in social work, public health, creative arts therapy, psychology or related human services field
  • Some camp experience preferred
  • A passion for working with kids and teens
  • Knowledge of Social Emotional Learning Concepts and Practice
  • Creative problem solving skills regarding interpersonal issues
  • Desire, ability, and willingness to work and live in a camp community and to reside overnight at camp in Peru, Massachusetts for the entire time camp is in session.

Responsibilities

  • Be a mentor and resource for campers, and cultivate spaces for wellness at camp
  • Hold regular office hours for drop-ins and run a support group
  • Meet one-on-one with campers who are experiencing social-emotional challenges or mental health issues
  • Communicate with parent/guardians as needed, with the supervision of senior camp staff
  • Monitor the emotional wellbeing of all campers and follow up as needed
  • Support and advise senior camp staff when camper issues arise
  • Work closely with the camp nurse to monitor the physical and emotional wellbeing of campers.

Benefits

  • Stipend of $1500 plus room and board
  • 10 to 12 training hours paid at $18.40 prior to camp
