About The Position

Devereux New York is seeking dedicated professionals to join their team as Sleep Direct Support Professionals (DSP). This role offers the unique opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of children and adults with developmental disabilities while earning money during sleep hours. The position is located in Kingston, NY, at the Hutton St IRA. The Sleep DSP will be permitted to sleep overnight at the assigned location, anticipating an average of seven hours of sleep per night, while remaining responsive to resident needs. During awake hours, the DSP will assist individuals with daily activities such as health and personal management, achieving personal goals, and household living. They will also be responsible for maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment that meets the physical, emotional, and personal needs of the residents, aiming to improve functioning and minimize interfering behaviors. Devereux New York serves individuals with intellectual disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and dual diagnoses.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma / GED required.
  • One year experience preferred.
  • Have a Valid NY Driver's License.
  • Be flexible, patient, energetic, creative, and have a sense of humor.
  • Have a strong passion for working with and helping children and adults with special needs.
  • Devereux has a zero-tolerance policy for abuse and maintains policies and procedures to systematically reduce the risk of abuse to occur in our organization.
  • Devereux fosters a culture of reporting abuse, and will cooperate with the authorities to the fullest extent possible.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates Degree preferred.
  • Consideration will be given for a candidate without a High School diploma if enrolled in a GED program.

Responsibilities

  • Sleep overnight at the assigned location while being responsive to the needs of the residents in the event that support is needed.
  • Assist individuals in daily activities, including health and personal management.
  • Assist individuals in achieving personal goals.
  • Assist individuals with daily household living.
  • Maintain a safe and therapeutic treatment environment that meets the physical, emotional, and personal needs of program individuals.
  • Improve functioning and minimize interfering behaviors of program individuals.
