About The Position

This role is at Spirit AeroSystems, Inc. a wholly owned subsidiary of The Boeing Company, supporting Spirit’s Commercial Business Units (“Spirit Commercial”). Spirit Commercial designs and builds commercial aerostructures, including for Boeing Commercial Airplanes, one of Boeing’s three business units and the premier manufacturer of commercial jetliners for decades. Spirit Commercial’s core products include fuselages, pylons, nacelles and wing components, with a focus on innovative composite and aluminum manufacturing solutions.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of precision hand forming and sanding skills.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience with the following tools: In line die grinder, 90 degree die grinder, Orbital sander, Jitterbug
  • All applicants must be willing and able to work any shift, including alternative work weeks.
  • All Candidates must pass the WorkKeys Assessment (workkeys.com) or provide verification that they have passed the WorkKeys Assessment.
  • Any person scheduling their WorkKeys Assessment will be required to present two (2) forms of identification to be verified before their scheduled date for the WorkKeys assessment.

Nice To Haves

  • 2 years experience in aircraft industry blending detail parts, fabricated skins, or in sheet metal.

Responsibilities

  • This position is accountable for set-up, support and production of high-quality products and to help create a highly productive work environment.
  • Will also support planning, checking, establishing a sequence of work to fabricate, assemble and inspect hardware to planning, engineering and quality control requirements; on where applicable
  • The Company will provide appropriate job training to enable employees to perform all necessary job functions including developing new and improved methods of production.
  • Perform multitasking and multi-machine operation.
  • Use any equipment (e.g., hand, power tools, air tools, scanners and computers) needed to prioritize, complete and process work assignments.
  • Perform any pickup, touch-up, rework, non-conformance, part mark and incorporation of changes to the product as required.
  • Utilizes precision measuring equipment (calipers, scales, etc.) to perform self-inspection of in-process and finished work.
  • Perform routine minor machine maintenance as part of their daily work duties (e.g. replacing machine filters, lubrication/coolant levels, etc. as related to basic Total Preventative Maintenance duties).
  • Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, technique sheets, work orders, and other documentation required to complete operation per engineering.
  • Routinely move products within the shop-defined area, including across aisle, using shop assigned equipment as required, and complete transactions necessary to move product to the next operation.
  • Performs verification of dimensions of parts using both mechanical and electronic precision measurement tools.
  • Perform inspection MVP, including first part review of fabricated parts and assemblies.
  • Initiate and document any non-conforming condition.
  • Skin polishing of mechanical fastened aircraft assemblies.
  • Perform hand form on assemblies and skins to meet engineering requirements.
  • Perform flap peening on assemblies to meet engineering requirements.
  • Perform drilling and disassembly to gain access to area of repair.
  • Perform process activities including, e.g., protective coatings, metal polishing of aircraft details, isoscope, etc...to support the production requirements.
  • Skin repair of mechanical fastened aircraft assemblies.
  • Perform hand form on assemblies and skins to meet engineering requirements.
  • Perform flap peening on assemblies to meet engineering requirements.
  • Perform drilling and disassembly to gain access to area of repair.
  • Perform all functions associated with the Level C:
  • Perform process activities including, e.g., painting, metal etching, metal polishing of aircraft details, heat treating, engraving, shot peening, sand blasting, wire assembling/fabrication, decal/ metal-cals and metal processing, etc. to support the production requirements.
  • Qualified to set-up and test electrical/mechanical/hydraulic/pneumatic assemblies and components.
  • Spray and brush priming.
  • Perform hand finishing operations typical of the following: blending of multiple adjacent MDD surfaces into engineering tolerances and/or perform transition work to bring detail parts in accordance with engineering tolerances.
