About The Position

This position performs advanced welding tasks with minimal supervision, focusing on welding operations on structural steel components in accordance with AWS D1.1 standards. The role requires strong proficiency in welding techniques, the ability to troubleshoot weld quality issues, and the capability to work independently on complex weldments. All welders play a key role in ensuring structural integrity, maintaining quality standards, and supporting production efficiency. Requirements

  • 2-5+ years of MIG welding experience.
  • Proven production or structural welding background.
  • Proficient in multiple weld positions (1G-4G).
  • Ability to read detailed drawings, instructions, and weld symbols.
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to lift and move materials up to required weight limits.
  • Commitment to workplace safety.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment required.
  • Proficient with measuring tools (tape measure, calipers, etc.).
  • Manual dexterity for welding and tool operation.
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull material as needed.
  • This position is active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching all day with the ability to be mobile throughout required work areas.
  • The employee may frequently lift and/or move items up to 55 lbs. on a regular basis and up to 75 lbs. on occasion.

  • Completion of a welding or vocational training program preferred or certification.

Responsibilities

  • Performs advanced MIG welding operations and executes complex weldments with minimal supervision.
  • Performs multi-pass welds and structural welds.
  • Reads and interprets detailed blueprints, work orders, and welding symbols.
  • Performs full equipment setup and parameter adjustments.
  • Inspects welds for quality and dimensional accuracy.
  • May train or mentor Welder 1 team members.
  • Troubleshoots welding defects (porosity, undercut, lack of fusion).
  • Operates hand tools, grinders, cutting torches, and other shop equipment.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area.
  • Follows all safety procedures, including PPE usage and equipment handling.
  • Reports equipment issues or material shortages to manager or lead personnel.
  • Maintains equipment and work areas.
  • Keeps area(s) clean and free of safety hazards.
  • Fills out required paperwork completely and accurately.
  • Maintains a positive attitude and holds oneself accountable to work as one team to ensure Grip-Tite's overall success.
  • Other job duties will be required.
  • May be assigned to work in another area or become cross-trained to work in another area as business needs require.

Benefits

  • Competitive Hourly Pay - $22.00-$25 p/hour, based on experience and shift.
  • Overtime may be required.
