The Skilled Tradesman is responsible for performing specialized maintenance, installation, repair, and construction work within a department. This position requires expertise in one or more trades, including electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, welding, or masonry, to maintain and improve state-owned facilities, infrastructure, and equipment. The Skilled Tradesman ensures that all work is completed efficiently, safely, and in compliance with state and federal regulations. The Skilled Tradesman is responsible for specialized trail maintenance along the 84-mile Delta Heritage Trail. This position supervises multiple maintenance teams and works closely with the Assistant Superintendent to plan and execute trail projects including bridge repair, resurfacing, erosion mitigation, herbicide application, and vegetation management. The position also oversees the operation, maintenance, and repair of heavy equipment, power tools, and maintenance vehicles. Delta Heritage Trail is large and remote, with a 2-hour drive from end to end and limited cell phone signal. This is a highly active position requiring frequent travel by truck, UTV, bicycle, or on foot to supervise crew, inspect the trail and trailheads, and respond to maintenance needs.
