About The Position

The Maryland Military Department is looking for a candidate to fill our Skilled Trades Specialist I position. This position will be an Emergency Essential Personnel. GRADE 11. This position will perform a variety of skilled trades work—including plumbing, carpentry, electrical, HVAC, masonry, painting, locksmithing, and welding—to maintain, repair, and improve Maryland National Guard facilities statewide. This position will ensure safe, functional, and mission-ready facilities that directly support the operational readiness of Soldiers, Airmen, and civilian staff.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
  • Two years of experience performing skilled trade work in plumbing, carpentry, electrical, HVAC, locksmith, masonry, painting, or welding work.
  • Candidates may substitute additional years of experience for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher, as a non-commissioned officer in utilities classifications or mechanical maintenance management specialty codes in utility systems repair, on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
  • Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
  • Ability to pass a State & Federal background check to access military facilities within the state of Maryland and to obtain a CAC card.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain this access to the facility and CAC card is a condition of employment for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Complete all customer service requests and work orders.
  • Maintain, repair and perform maintenance on all structures, buildings, facilities, roads, and grounds that are located on the facility.
  • Troubleshoot infrastructure systems to determine faults.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on related systems that include but is not limited to HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems.
  • Maintain all equipment used.
  • Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promote continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
  • Ensure compliance with safety codes, environmental standards, and security procedures.
