About The Position

The Skilled Trades Helper performs duties in one or more of the following skilled trades: HVAC mechanics, plumbing, electrical, carpentry or painting. This position provides assistance and training under supervision in a variety of skilled trades duties, such as carpentry; installation of electrical wiring, electrical fixtures, and computer cable lines; assembly, installation, and repairing of air, gas, water, and waste disposal systems, according to specifications and plumbing codes; and inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs of boilers, air compressors, and related equipment. The role also involves checking hallways, stairways, and other public areas for non-working lights and changing out ballasts, transformers, fuses, or switches. Additionally, the helper may assist painters, plasterers, or welders in preparing surfaces for repair and/or re-finishing. Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others. The position is part of the Maintenance Operations Department at University of Arkansas Pulaski Technical College.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic measuring tools, equipment, and materials used in the various skilled trades.
  • Ability to perform manual labor under various working conditions.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools in various working conditions.
  • Completion of sufficient education or training to read and write.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate information and ideas in various environments.
  • Skilled in the use, operation, and care of tools and machinery.
  • The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Must be able to lift, push, and pull 50lbs.
  • One year experience in chosen trade area. Education may be substituted for experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working and/or assisting an Electrician, Plumber, HVAC Technician or Mechanic

Responsibilities
