About The Position

The District currently has one vacancy for a Skilled Maintenance Worker - HVAC, working 3.75 hours per day, 12 months per year. The work hours are from 3:00 pm to 6:45 pm, Monday through Friday. This role involves performing journey-level work in the maintenance of furnaces, boilers, pool heaters, ventilation exhaust systems, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems. The position also requires assuring the proper operation of related systems and equipment, and maintaining and programming the District's Energy Management System to ensure proper working schedules. This classification is expected to spend at least 75% of its time in the HVAC specialty.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school and three years of journey-level experience in the heating and air conditioning trade.
  • Valid California driver's license.
  • Valid EPA Certification for Type I and Type II refrigerant use.
  • Knowledge of Centralized Energy Management Systems and proper operation and programming.
  • Knowledge of principles of air conditioning and heating systems.
  • Knowledge of related hand tools and equipment.
  • Knowledge of electrical meters.
  • Knowledge of safety precautions and procedures.
  • Ability to operate the District's centralized Energy Management System.
  • Ability to repair air conditioning and heating units.
  • Ability to use welding equipment.
  • Ability to read basic electrical schematics.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the given workload.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and program the District's Energy Management System to ensure proper working schedules; program system for operation during the day and special events after hours; adjust room temperatures at the computer; program electronic thermostats.
  • Diagnose and repair air conditioning and heating equipment, including air conditioners, ventilation exhaust systems, refrigerators, freezers, ice machines, boilers, and water heating systems.
  • Trace out electrical circuits and replace faulty electrical parts.
  • Check heating equipment for gas leaks; light pilot lights; repair or replace burners as necessary; install new gas valves and gas piping for heating equipment; install electrical gas ignition systems as necessary.
  • Diagnose and replace faulty compressors, filter dryers, tubing, expansion valves, and other system parts and repair refrigerant leaks in systems.
  • Welding of replacement parts on refrigeration and air conditioning systems.
  • Repair, rewire, replace, and calibrate electronic thermostats and damper motors.
  • Performs routine filter changes, coil cleaning, lubrication, and preventative maintenance.
  • Repair and replace commercial kitchen stoves, ovens, and related appliances; repair ice machines, washers, dryers, and other equipment.
  • Repair and service electric motors, air conditioners, and heater blower assemblies.
  • Order equipment and replacement parts; maintain a record of warranty dates; advise supervisor of faulty equipment and make recommendations for replacement as necessary; advise supervisors on the type of replacement equipment.
  • Assist other maintenance personnel with projects in various skilled trades as assigned.
  • Provide work direction and guidance to other assigned maintenance personnel on a project basis.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
