About The Position

Western Specialty Contractors is looking for self-motivated individuals to serve as Skilled Laborers. As a member of the branch production team, you will be responsible for performing work within a particular work area in accordance with generally accepted standards of the crafts. Experienced skilled laborers are encouraged to apply. Specific trades mentioned include Masons and Tuckpointers (brick replacement, lintel replacement, mortar removal and replacement, stone repair), Waterproofers (below grade and building envelope waterproofing, pedestrian and vehicular coatings), Caulkers (sealant removal and replacement around windows, glass glazing, window perimeters, control joints, expansion joints), and Concrete Journeymen (concrete repair, epoxy and urethane injection, carbon fiber reinforcement, grout pocket patching, post tension repairs, concrete sealing). Experienced and non-experienced laborers are welcome.

Requirements

  • Experience in a trade or craft is preferred.
  • Sufficient reading, writing and math skills to comprehend and explain company safety policies and material instruction.
  • Ability to use logical step-by-step procedures in working with different materials using a variety of skills.
  • Ability to work within precise limits or standards of accuracy and judge straight lines, spaces and proportions.
  • Ability to read drawings.
  • Identify existing and predictable hazards in work surroundings, including working conditions that are unsanitary, hazardous or dangerous to employees.
  • Ability to stand or walk for long periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry materials weighing 50 pounds or more.
  • Ability to climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolds and other objects and carry tools and equipment.
  • Ability to see well (either naturally or with correction).
  • Ability to work at heights and at extreme temperatures.
  • Wear company’s safety equipment.
  • Practical construction experience preferred.
  • Must have own “hand tools of the trade.”
  • May be required to work weekends, nights, and out of town.
  • Must have reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

  • Performance of work within a particular work area in accordance with generally accepted standards of the crafts.
  • Brick replacement, lintel replacement, mortar removal and replacement, and stone repair (for Masons and Tuckpointers).
  • Below grade and building envelope waterproofing, pedestrian and vehicular coatings (for Waterproofers).
  • Sealant removal and replacement around windows including glass glazing, window perimeters, control joints and expansion joints (for Caulkers).
  • Concrete repair including small and large patches on horizontal and vertical concrete surfaces, epoxy and urethane injection, carbon fiber reinforcement, grout pocket patching, post tension repairs and concrete sealing (for Concrete Journeymen).
